Little lopsided guy #2

Today we went to the physio about Ollie's flat head. Luckily for us, one of the few paediatric phsyiotherapists in Brisbane just happens to be in Sherwood. She confirmed that we weren't imagining Ollie's flat spot and also that his neck muscle on one side was tighter than it should be as a result of favouring his right side. It turns out that we are already doing pretty much most of the things that we can do to help him with this problem (talking to him and putting toys to his left side to encourage him to look that way, raising his mattress on one side and LOTS of tummy time). We have an appointment to go back in two weeks so we have to do everything we can in that time so that there is a really noticeable improvement next time we see her.

As an update on the sleep front, on Sunday night Ollie went down around 6.30 and didn't wake until 1am for a feed. He then slept through until morning. I thought this must have been a fluke but then last night he woke for his 10pm feed and slept through till about 3am and then slept until morning. While there is no consistency in the timing of his feeds/waking, he has basically dropped one of his middle of the night feeds. Fingers crossed he does the same thing tonight.

Not as enjoyable is that illness is sweeping the Dower household. Nick came down with a cold on the weekend and had today off work with it. Last night I realised that I was also coming down with it and it appears that Olliebear may be getting it as well - although his sneezes and coughs are much more adorable than Nick and mine. This experience has highlighted to us the lack of medications that are available to me while I'm feeding Ollie. Codral, which we swear by for colds/flu, is off limits as it apparently can reduce milk supply by up to 25%, not to mention have an amphetamine like effect on Ollie - not exactly ideal. So I am suffering through it the old fashioned way.

You will see from the pics above that Ollie and Nick have finally tried out their tuxedo t-shirts - something I know Nick has been looking forward to since many months before Ollie was even born. We like the message that a tuxedo t-shirt and nappy gives - "I want to be formal, but I still crap my pants"!!

Nick is planning to have the smiling pic of Ollie in his shirt printed onto a stubby cooler so he can take it out with him this weekend when he finally gets to "wet Ollie's head" with a few friends.

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc...

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro...

Cos we are living in a material world...

It has been a week of new purchases in the Dower household. As Ollie is nearing the six month mark when he will start eating solids (or mushies as they should really be called), we thought it was time to get ourselves a highchair. You'd be surprised at how many different kinds you can get and after lots of research I worked out exactly which one I wanted. So of course, that was the one that had just been discontinued!! Anyway, we bought a similar one and it got delivered to our house ... in pieces. I couldn't wait for Nick to come home to put it together so I gave it a crack and after managing to find a screwdriver (the most challenging part of the process) I successfully negotiated the instructions until the object before me resembled the one on the box. Ollie and I both held our breath the first time I put him in it, but it held his weight (not an insignificant amount). Ollie seems to like his highchair for reasonable periods of time and I have found it a godsend as it en...
