COMMUNITY SPIRIT

I love my street.

When I Nick and I moved out here we happened to luck upon a great little pocket of suburbia.  We discovered that we knew the guy who lived two doors down from us who is a lawyer and does the same kind of work as us.  Across the road are two police officers who are also in the sameish area.  Both of these couples happened to have babies within weeks of Ollie being born so I’ve got this built in posse in the hood.

I hook up with these mums each week or so, along with other mums in the street/suburb.  But along with these organised occasions we have the lovely spontaneous chats in the street which might evolve into dropping in for a coffee etc.  It is so nice to have people so proximate that I can just chitty chat to on those (far too frequent) occasions when I am suffering from a serious case of cabin fever and just need to talk to someone, anyone.

This afternoon was our neighbourhood Christmas party – for just a small pocket of our street.  The woeful weather rained on our original parade but didn’t stand in the way of a party in someone’s garage.  The kids had a great time playing in the playroom and racing leaves down the drains while the adults sat around.

I took along some delicious mince pies that I made last night as well as some Christmas themed playdough (green with glitter through it).  The playdough was a hit however it met with tears from one of the little guests shortly after when it became apparent that it was a little stickier than the playdough she was used to.

Olliebear is a bit of a sook this week as it seems that he might be getting another ten or so teeth all coming through at once.  But he is still a good sport and has stayed in pretty good spirits.  His new trick this week is standing up on his own without holding on.  It evolved from standing up on holding on to something (usually the couch), to standing up with his hands free but leaning his big belly to support himself, to 5-10 seconds of totally unassisted standing.  This is very exciting but also very dangerous.  So far we have already had a few incidents where he has fallen straight back onto his head, but luckily it is already a bit flat back there!!

Only 5 more sleeps until Santa makes his first visit to Ollie.

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc...

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro...

Eve is 10: the birthday blog

Double digits?? Say what?!?!?! Did I blink and miss the last decade of you being in my life? The little girl who came along and tipped my world it on it's head.  The little tornado of sweetness and light, chaos and bonkers, all wrapped into one perfect little human. To make sure I always remember you as you become a tween, here are some of the things about you that are special: - ABBA - I'm not sure where this obsession came from but you cannot get enough of them.  You have our spotify account jumping from one ABBA song to the next all day long.  Mamma Mia 1 and 2 (who knew there was a second one??) are your absolute favourite movies and you talk about the characters life you've known them for years. - You are doing an amazing job of music at school.  You are in your second year of fife and have joined the senior fife band where you had to memorise all of the songs so you could march in formation for your performances.  Your fife is usually not too far fr...
