Lay by the bay, I just may.

With the big move happening in less than two weeks it is action central around here.  Today was a BIG day for us as it was the first time we got to go and check out our new house from the inside.  We had been pouring over photos for the last few months but the chance to get inside was too much to pass up.  Even Pandy made the trip and the four of us toured every square metre of the joint we are going to call home for the next few years. Here is Ollie checking out his breakdancing in the living area, although his favourite part of the house was probably the ceiling fan in his new room which elicited a “wow”!

It is an understatement to say we are excited.  We can’t wait for our life by the water and thought we’d check out a bit of what was on offer.  We loved the nearby rockpool and thought we’d have a spot of fish and chips for lunch while we were there.  Ollie loved the fish but in keeping with his condiment obsession he would dunk his fish in tartare a few times before actually eating it.  He is also wearing his cool new moose shirt sent from Nanna Carmel in Montreal.  He loves that it flips open to show the Moose’s teeth.  Not too many shirts can do that.  At least none that O has ever had.

With the move looming it is packing central around here.  There are moving boxes everywhere.  Largely because Ollie and I have made two trips in the last fortnight to the box factory a few suburbs away.  This is better than a trip to a theme park for Ollie as it is in an industrial area and requires driving past lots of trucks, some cows and a few diggers so it ticks massive boxes for a little boy.  It was extra points this week as we went slowly through an intersection where an accident had just taken place and there was a fire engine, ambulance, traffic response vehicle and a few police cars.  Not so good for the people in the cars but O thought it was pretty darn special.

Not sure if Ollie has worked out that we are moving what with all the action around the house but he is having a bit of fun with it.  This is him helping me pack up his toys and books…

Things continue to go well in the toileting and teeth cleaning stakes.  Here is living proof of one of his reward stars.  I continue to find them everywhere and look forward to getting him a stamp instead.

Probably the low point of the week was a bit of an injury.  Aunty Hayley was over with one of her friends and we were momentarily distracted (I mean like for a second) when Ollie decided it would be a good idea to stand up on the pedals of his bike.  Gravity kicked in and we saw O falling sideways to hit his poor little head on the wooden wall of our garage.  He didn’t take it well and screamed for the rest of the afternoon.  We are so lucky that it wasn’t any closer to his eye.  But it came up a treat with a little black eye the next day.  Poor little trooper.   But as Hayley’s friend said, “chicks dig scars".

My boys hanging out tonight.  This is after Ollie ate the biggest meal ever.  He has been eating pretty leanly lately but when Nick cooked up macaroni with veges and meat Ollie hooked into it like the Terminator and then demanded two desserts of yoghurt.  After dinner his poor little tummy was rock hard.  We had to take a picture.

Ollie and I went to the State Library this week with his lovely lady friend Ruby (and her mumma Rachel).  O loves Ruby so much that when I told that morning as I put him down for a nap that we were going to see Ruby he went to sleep calling out “Rubeeeeee Rubeeeee”.  Of course he was thrilled to see her and they rocked it out to Tim the guy who sings awesome nursery rhymes.  He is quite funny and injects lots of mummy humour – mary’s lamb shouldn’t go to school because of workplace health and safety issues as well as some timely criticism of work choices.  Ollie doesn’t get the jokes but is a total groupie and inches his way to the front until he is part of the band.

As a quick reference back to a recent blog where I wondered whether it was alright for me to keep using the ‘baby parking’ at Coles.  On Friday afternoon we went to do some shopping and the magic prized spot right next to the door was free.  I hesitated but the temptation was too great.  I now figure it is free game until he is 2.

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro

Eve is 11: the birthday blog

To my beautiful eleven year old daughter. Another year has flown by and you are another year older in the blink of an eye. Let me share some of the things I will always remember about you at this age. - You got a phone. Probably one of the biggest changes this year. Like all young people, you see it as an extension of your hand and you need to be reminded to get off it quite a lot. - You fronted up for another season of netball, despite your protestations. It is so lovely to see you out on the court supporting your team mates. - You are seriously addicted to Roblox. Like seriously! You could happily spend hours playing with your friends on there, or even side by side if you’re hanging out together. - You humour is wicked and sometimes savage. Your timing is ridiculously on point sometimes. - You’re not to old or too cool to play with your dolls. Sometimes they still get dusted off and dressed up. There have even been a few haircuts for some of them. - You love listening to audio stor
