Welcome to the world

Welcome to the world to our newest relative Alexander Luke Dower, who arrived a few days ahead of schedule over the weekend. The original plan was that Alex would share his birthday with his dad, but it seems that little Alex wanted a special day of his very own.

We took Ollie and Evie up to the hospital to meet their new cousin and to give our best wishes to Mum Fiona and Dad Luke. We can't wait until Alex gets a bit bigger and then we shudder to think of all the shenanigans these three will get up to over the years.

Evie and I had another girly outing over the weekend to my friend Phoebe's hens celebration. I have known Phoebe since 1987 so it was a real thrill to catch up again for such a lovely occasion. But since it was an afternoon affair I was able to take Evie along with me - which is a good thing and also not such a good thing. I'm itching to go to a social event without her soon but it is probably a while off. It is funny that when you have a baby with you, no one talks to you about anything else other than children. But we both had a great time and Evie was on her best behaviour and made a lot of fans.

It was on the way home from this event that Evie really earned her keep. I got pulled over by the police at Woolloongabba for an RBT (I think I also failed to indicate around the corner but that wasn't brought up). I actually had a glass of champagne about three hours earlier but I was still feeling paranoid, probably because I so rarely would drive after having had anything to drink on the same day. I even told the officer I had just been to a hens (he asked). Then Evie starting to crack up a bit for a feed and apparently it was going to take five minutes for the machine to warm up so the very kind officer asked me whether there was any chance I could be over the limit to which I of course replied that there wasn't, he then happily let me go on my way. Thank you very much baby Evie. Nick was appalled - he thinks it is because I am a girl, and a blonde one at that. I maintain that it is because the young male police officer probably has his own family and is aware that little babies don't like to be delayed when their tummies are empty.

I mentioned last week that Ollie was going to be going to the dentist and Obear was super excited about it. This excitement saw him being the biggest, bravest boy and happily climbing up into the giant (and super cool) moving chair. Turns out his teeth are beautiful, so he was rewarded with a showbag of teethy products including a new Diego toothbrush. Very impressed Ollie. He had such a great time there that he keeps asking me if he can go again. Now if only Nick was so keen to go to the dentist.

Excitement plus around here on the weekend as there was a fair at the end of our street. We took O down and let him have a go on the flying elephant ride, the clowns and the biggest jumping castle you could imagine. Unfortunately for O there was a time limit for staying in there and when the carny lady decided it was time for the kids to come out, he put a bolt on and tried to get himself deeper into the rabbit warren. But he quickly came to his senses (when she went in there after him) and he made his exit with his dignity in tact.

In other O news, this week has seen him going to bed in big boy undies!! A very huge deal. So far he has worn them four nights and not once has he had an accident in bed. This is all thanks to Nick's efforts at taking a sleeping Ollie to the toilet each evening before Nick comes to bed. I'm impressed with both of them - especially because it has involved no effort on my part at all.

And a smiling Evie to leave you with for the week. She is as happy and lovely as ever. And why wouldn't she be with all of the rest she is getting. Last night she went from 10.30 to 4.45 without waking up. Such a super star. And last night she had her first shower with Nick and Ollie. She is growing up way too quickly!

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro

Eve is 11: the birthday blog

To my beautiful eleven year old daughter. Another year has flown by and you are another year older in the blink of an eye. Let me share some of the things I will always remember about you at this age. - You got a phone. Probably one of the biggest changes this year. Like all young people, you see it as an extension of your hand and you need to be reminded to get off it quite a lot. - You fronted up for another season of netball, despite your protestations. It is so lovely to see you out on the court supporting your team mates. - You are seriously addicted to Roblox. Like seriously! You could happily spend hours playing with your friends on there, or even side by side if you’re hanging out together. - You humour is wicked and sometimes savage. Your timing is ridiculously on point sometimes. - You’re not to old or too cool to play with your dolls. Sometimes they still get dusted off and dressed up. There have even been a few haircuts for some of them. - You love listening to audio stor
