Halloween

Things got a bit spooky around here with the local halloween festival on the weekend.  We had really been looking forward to it for quite a while but unfortunately it looked like it would be a fairly soggy event.  But as they say, the show must go on.

We had Pa and Nanna Kaye staying here at the time so they got to witness the cuteness that was not only our two little spooksters but a bunch of Ollie's friends who also joined us.

Ol, at his request, was a robot.  We may have been calling him a "gay robot" (think c3po) behind his back thanks to the particularly  shiny stretchy material I made his costume out of along with the presence of glow sticks.  But he certainly didn't seem to mind and all the time spent cursing the annoying material while at the sewing machine was completely worth it.

Little Miss Eve's costume on the other hand took about an hour to make and cost around about $3.50 for a little bit of white material. The rest I had lying around including the brown t-shirt that became her Princess Leia hair.  I figured that over the next few years I'll probably be fielding requests for Disney Princesses so I wanted to dress her up as something cool while I still could!  She looked amazingly gorgeous and didn't even seem to mind wearing her hat.

Note Ol's "awesometer" gauge!!!

My two llittle cutie pies!

Even Princess Leia sometimes likes to sit in her pram sucking her thumb and snuggling her wooby.

Ol's pals included a skeleton, spiderman and a witch.  Of course they all went a little bit mad in their costumes, as is to be expected.

The dodgy weather continued to loom overhead while we had a costumed play at the park and fish and chips for dinner.  It became even more threatening as the boys played the clown games (you know, the ridiculously overpriced ones where you shove the balls in their mouths - but they think it is pretty awesome).  But it wasn't until we got ourselves into position to watch the street parade that the heavens decided to open up.  The kids donned rain jackets while the parents huddled under umbrellas that seemed to be dripping on us more than protecting us.  Eve was in the best place with a rain cover over her pram but being at knee level of a lot of scary dressed up people was just a bit too much for her.   We stuck it out for the first little bit of the parade but once the winds came up we split up from the boys and headed home in the rain.

After the parade the boys headed home too and it was on this walk while on Nick's shoulders that Ol invited his friend Zac to stay - "Zac, would you like to come to my house for a movie".  Zac, also on his dad's shoulders replied "Thank you Oliver that would be lovely"!  Pleasantries aside, warm clothes donned and the little munchkins settled beautifully into watching 'Despicable Me' for the millionth time while the mummies and daddies had a few calming bevvies.  This was topped off with a brilliant fireworks display perfectly viewed from our back deck.

So despite it literally raining on our parade, it was a pretty dang awesome night for the kidlets. Even cranky pants Eve had a reasonable good time.

In non spooky news around here these two little'uns continue to learn to play reasonably nicely together.  Lately they've had a great time playing playdough together (well Eve ate more than she played) as well as pushing wheeled toys around like a pint sized bikie gang.

One of the wheeled vehicles include Ol's new pride and joy - his scooter.  We bought him a cheapy one a while ago but it never took off.  Since buying him this schmicko one he hasn't let it out of his sight.  He even sits next to it on the rug to have snacks.  Too cute.  It also makes my life a lot easier as he can scooter alongside the pram when we make our very frequent trips to the post office to post lots of t-shirts.

Cheezels anyone?  Nanna Carmel has brought cheezels over a few times lately and it would seem that my two children are absolutely crazy for them.  We've shown Ol how to eat them off his fingertips which of course he thinks is the best.

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro

Eve is 11: the birthday blog

To my beautiful eleven year old daughter. Another year has flown by and you are another year older in the blink of an eye. Let me share some of the things I will always remember about you at this age. - You got a phone. Probably one of the biggest changes this year. Like all young people, you see it as an extension of your hand and you need to be reminded to get off it quite a lot. - You fronted up for another season of netball, despite your protestations. It is so lovely to see you out on the court supporting your team mates. - You are seriously addicted to Roblox. Like seriously! You could happily spend hours playing with your friends on there, or even side by side if you’re hanging out together. - You humour is wicked and sometimes savage. Your timing is ridiculously on point sometimes. - You’re not to old or too cool to play with your dolls. Sometimes they still get dusted off and dressed up. There have even been a few haircuts for some of them. - You love listening to audio stor
