As Ollie is almost 6 months old, we had our check up with the health nurse. He now tips the scales in at 8.4 kg - which explains why I am struggling to carry him around these days. Because he is such a superstar the nurse noted in his book that his development was "excellent for his age" so I'm proud as punch.
Unfortunately Ollie has not been well this week. Nick was struck down with a cold and we all ended up with it. While Nick is still pretty sick, Ollie only had it for a few days, but it was awful. He sounded like Darth Vader and was a total snot ball. I dashed up to the pharmacy one night to buy a vaporizer which has been running every night since. It all seems to have done the trick and he is on the mend again. Nick on the other hand is sitting beside me still snuffling.
But being sick has done nothing to reduce his giant appetite (Ollie, not Nick). We continue to work our way through various fruits and vegetables and this week tried our first proper desserts. We started off with vanilla custard (which was so delicious I stole some) which went down a treat. You could tell there was a total flavour explosion in his mouth when he tried it. He kept leaning forward and opening his mouth for more and more mouthfuls. Today we tried chocolate custard - sounds good but I won't be fighting him for that one. The pic above shows how much he was enjoying it. He is totally a sweets guy. He still eats the vegetables but there is a bit of drama involved and sometimes I feel like I'm putting on dinner and a show to get him to eat it all, but come dessert time, he practically feeds himself.
Speaking of which, I let him have a go at feeding himself the other day. It was VERY messy but also very fun as you can see from the pic. I think he actually managed to spoon more food out of his mouth than in but a good time was had by all.
The other photo is of Olliebear in his new hat that his Aunty Em bought him (no accident that it is Geelong colours). We went to our friend Ned's 3rd birthday party on Saturday morning which was one of the coldest days of the year. Luckily the hat kept his noggin and little ears toasty warm.
