After having worn his special little helmet for 8 weeks, Ollie and I went for what we hoped would be our final appointment at the clinic. On the last occasion we had been told he would probably only wear it for another four weeks plus a further two weeks just at night. I was a little nervous that they might make him wear it for a bit longer, but after one look at where the helmet was starting to rub on his (increasingly chubbier) cheeks, it was declared that he was done.
On our way to the car he held his helmet ever so proudly as he sat in his pram. I've included a pic of him holding it on the day that he got it taken off. He seems to be a bit fond of it and likes playing with it. At the moment it is being worn by one of his teddies!
I'm struggling a little with him not having it on. I keep checking to see if his head has gotten flatter overnight and, more concerningly, he keeps falling back without realising that he hasn't got that extra layer of cushioning anymore.
We have seen some exciting developments lately in terms of Ollie's movement. I mentioned recently that he had started rolling onto his side a lot and this has developed into full rolls onto his stomach. We have been hoping he would start to crawl in the near future but he had to start spending more time on his stomach before that happened, so I bribed him with television (Sesame Street - still great) as long as he watched it on his tummy.
It seems to have done the trick, with him now rolling regularly from back to front and back again. He is also building up strength in his arms and has figured out how to do a little 360 shuffle - but this is VERY VERY slow. He also whinges a lot but we have decided he needs to toughen up a little so are being a bit cruel to be kind. It has definitely paid off.
The only problem is that he sometimes rolls onto his tummy in his cot and despite possessing great skills in rolling back onto his back, he cries out until I go and flip him back over. This morning was a little better though, he was just happily chatting away to himself on his tummy!
The last pic is Ollie munging on some watermelon through his mesh feeder. Brilliant inventions. Ollie thinks it is awesome, especially on a hot day.
