In some respects it has been a very trying week around here. Even though I've been talking about Ollie getting teeth for ages, there is definitely some toothypeg action going on. It appears that the two front bottom teeth are about to come through at the same time (with the one that came suddenly out of nowhere about to win the race). This is causing him a LOT of grief and in turn causing me a lot of sleepless nights. Last night wasn't too bad though as he managed to go a stretch of four hours without crying and needing me to go into him!
Another delightful crying experience we've had in the last week was an afternoon walk around the neighbourhood that I thought would be perfectly timed to lull Ollie off to a peaceful slumber. Since I'm writing about this, you can tell that things didn't go to plan. Not only did he not sleep (and therefore threw the whole afternoon/evening off) but he screamed bloody murder the entire time - almost an hour. I swear that people in cars driving past us were looking at me wondering what on earth I was doing to this poor kid. I even ended up having to carry him while pushing the pram for the last leg.
But in positive news, we managed to secure daycare for next year. We've been down there twice in the last week to check it out and to have a bit of a play around. Ollie seems to like it as he made his Beavis and Butthead laugh when we went in (it goes "heh, heh, heh"). Even though he seemed keen, I still feel guilty about it so I went and bought him expensive new toy that I'd seen at one of the other babies' houses this week. I thought it was a great idea until we'd played with it for five minutes and I'd worked out that it was WAY noisy and the voice was some obnoxious English chick ("rock'n'roll" in a clipped British voice). To add insult to injury, I think he prefers the $5 rattle that I grabbed on an impulse at the counter.
This weekend we had the arrival on Nanna Freddie (just in time to experience the teething troubles) as well as a trip down to the coast to pick Nick up from his 100k bike ride. Mum, Ollie and I stopped in at Ikea on the way to get Ollie a few new things (cloth book, bowls etc and a cot rail protector so he doesn't chew it - once his teeth arrive that is) - check out the pic of him in his trolley sitting up like a big boy - even if he is wearing a Carmen Miranda fruit hat!
Since learning how to high 5 last week, we have been expanding on our hand repetoire, adding waving and patty cake and even working on blowing some kisses. He also tried his hand at reading - check out the damage he did to Nick's book - as well as figuring out the remote control (with which he is obsessed).
