Reflection and revelations

Ollie and I headed up to the local shopping centre the other day to escape the oppressive heat (which we did) and to try and finish off our Christmas shopping (which we didn't). During our trip an old lady asked how old Ollie was which caused me to realise that it was his 11 month birthday.

Later, Ollie was having a play with the toys in the nursing room while a new mum was feeding her tiny baby. I couldn't believe that suddenly I was the relaxed (albeit mildly exhausted) mother to the small boy while she was looking incredibly terrified with this teeny squealing wrinkled being. It was just a matter of moments ago that I was in her shoes.

Given it is only a few weeks shy of the big 12 months (the French champagne is on ice), it totally freaks me out how quickly time has flown by.

It has been the most amazing year of my life. Ollie and I have had an absolute blast being a lady of leisure and her son. We've been to mother's group, swimming lessons, coffee with friends, Gymboree and hanging with the mothers in my neighbourhood (or as Nick calls us, the Mafia). At many points this year I have proclaimed my willingness to stay home forever and even now as I approach my start date at work, I am saddened at the prospect of being away from Ollie even a few days a week.

But this week it finally happened. The thing many of my friends told me would happen - I realised that I actually do need to go back to work. I'm not sure whether it came about due to my constant singing of nursery rhymes or whether it is because Ollie has just been so demanding lately. He has a sixth sense for anything dangerous and totally age-inappropriate and I spend most of my days keeping him from pulling out powercords and messing with the modem.
However, something amazing also happened this week. I took ownership of my dream camera. My new (but not quite as adored, baby) camera, that I have wanted for a number of years, and finally it is mine! I have taken WAY too many photos in the last two days but when you have such an amazing subject (ie Ollie-B) it is pretty easy to do. I've included a slightly dodgy pic of me celebrating my new purchase.
Other events include a trek to Ikea with Nanna Carmel and Aunty Em which say Olliebear consume his first taste of Swedish meatballs and mash. The photo taken after this captured the moment that Ollie smooshed his hand right into the gravy. Ewww!
Last night saw Nick and I catching Powderfinger which always captures a sense of nostalgia for us. This came about as Nanna Carmel and Aunty Em looked after a sleeping Ollie at their place and Nick and I headed back there for a sleepover when cheap beers at the Vic no longer appealed. We topped off the trip with lunch at superbowl - as you can see Ollie really got into the experience. To make things better we even scored one of the coveted New Year's calendar!!
Check out this pic of Ollie having a close encoutner of the Gus kind. Lately Ollie has been getting pretty close to her, what with his super speedy legs and his ability to quickly move any obstacle put in his way. Gus had been a real good sport about this and despite Ollie grabbing multiple clumps of her fur, she has withheld the temptation to swipe across the face. Only time will tell whether Ollie and Gus will become good mates or whether she will feature as a special at the local Chinese restaurant.

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc...

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro...

Eve is 10: the birthday blog

Double digits?? Say what?!?!?! Did I blink and miss the last decade of you being in my life? The little girl who came along and tipped my world it on it's head.  The little tornado of sweetness and light, chaos and bonkers, all wrapped into one perfect little human. To make sure I always remember you as you become a tween, here are some of the things about you that are special: - ABBA - I'm not sure where this obsession came from but you cannot get enough of them.  You have our spotify account jumping from one ABBA song to the next all day long.  Mamma Mia 1 and 2 (who knew there was a second one??) are your absolute favourite movies and you talk about the characters life you've known them for years. - You are doing an amazing job of music at school.  You are in your second year of fife and have joined the senior fife band where you had to memorise all of the songs so you could march in formation for your performances.  Your fife is usually not too far fr...
