Who’s a big boy then?

At our local supermarket there are three carparks right next to the door that are designated “baby parking”.  Ollie and I have been using these parks for the last 18 months and loving the convenience of scooting in and out of the store.  But today I suddenly wondered, “Is Ollie really a baby anymore"?”.

As much as it will pain me to park further away from the door in future, it is such a joy to me to see our beautiful little baby boy growing up into, well, a boy.  He seems to have hit a bit of a vertical growth spurt recently which has made him a bit taller and skinnier which makes him seems like a lot more of a boy.

His mannerisms become more like a little boy all the time too.  Today we really took a big step and took the lid off his sippy cup so he could drink out of it like a big boy.  It was a risky move and not without any mess but he seemed so impressed with himself that it was worth it.

Here he is feeding himself and being super dooper cute.  Yes, that is tomato sauce on his nose.  He is quite the condiment King and I find myself putting little bits of sauce or mayo on each mouthful of food sometimes just to get him to eat.  It makes me feel like a dodgy mother but it is such a tiny amount that I put on but that I’m coming to terms with it. I am adamant that he gets this from Nick, who will slather his food in BBQ sauce before he even tastes it.

Our love of “Yo Gabba Gabba” has gone to a whole new level this week.  I couldn’t resist buying this DJ Lance Rock Mega Blocks set.  Mega Blocks are like the poor cousin of Duplo, but importantly they are totally compatible so they work well with our already impressive collection.  The best part of this addition is that it is shaped like a ghetto blaster and the different buttons play our fave songs from the show.  Obear’s favourite button is the scratching one that plays over the top of the other songs.  He totally rocks it.  In other Yo Gabba Gabba news, Ollie has come up with his own name for it.  Now when I ask him if he wants to watch TV he will reply “Gabby”.  Too cute.

Here is one of our masterful Gabby inspired constructions.  Perhaps Ollie didn’t have any involvement in it going up, but I can say without a shadow of a doubt that he would have been very hands on in its destruction.

Yesterday saw us heading to Nick’s boss’s house for a lovely afternoon of feasting.  She is lucky enough to have a real chef’s garden with lots of raised beds filled with beautiful herbs and vegetables.  She took a real shine to Ollie and the two headed off hand in hand to inspect the cherry tomatoes.  After that, Ollie spent the rest of the afternoon convincing anyone he could to keep taking him back to see them.  And every single time he would come back with a mouthful of delicious fresh tomatoes.  (I think perhaps we might need to grow some at the new house!).  His other favourite part was the chickens.  These were no average chickens, I’m pretty sure they are either being fed human growth hormone or lasagne as they are the biggest, fattest, shiniest chickens I have ever seen.  Obear thought it was the best to stick his little fingers into the cage, but luckily they weren’t pecked off.  Mind you, he did enough damage by squelching around in the muddy chicken poo.  He was pretty manky by the end of it.  He rounded off the afternoon by pushing a washing trolley around and chasing the “meows” around the house.  All in all, a VERY successful afternoon for Obear.

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc...

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro...

Cos we are living in a material world...

It has been a week of new purchases in the Dower household. As Ollie is nearing the six month mark when he will start eating solids (or mushies as they should really be called), we thought it was time to get ourselves a highchair. You'd be surprised at how many different kinds you can get and after lots of research I worked out exactly which one I wanted. So of course, that was the one that had just been discontinued!! Anyway, we bought a similar one and it got delivered to our house ... in pieces. I couldn't wait for Nick to come home to put it together so I gave it a crack and after managing to find a screwdriver (the most challenging part of the process) I successfully negotiated the instructions until the object before me resembled the one on the box. Ollie and I both held our breath the first time I put him in it, but it held his weight (not an insignificant amount). Ollie seems to like his highchair for reasonable periods of time and I have found it a godsend as it en...
