Apologies for the radio silence. As you've probably guessed, the big move has just taken place. Tonight marks the 7th night that we have been in the wonderful house that we will call home for the next few years and we couldn't be happier.
The move itself went as well as could be expected with a toddler in tow. It was definitely harder than any previous moves, mostly because I had to keep Obear entertained while Nick pitched in with the wiry little removalists. But also things like Ollie getting totally distressed at seeing his cot get dismantled. And deciding it would be great to kick his shoes against the walls I'd just been cleaning. Anyway...
But he has settled in beautifully and is already declaring "home" when we pull up to the new house. It seems to suit us all perfectly and we are loving feeling like we are on vacation every day when we see the twinkling water. It is just so lovely to get up and go for a walk beside the water. Ollie especially loves it, calling out "water" all the time. He also loves the increase in helicopter and plane sightings. He particularly loved having Pa & Nanna Kaye here for the first few nights (well two doors down at Jim & Jenna's). I think he saw there house as an extension of this one and now that they have gone home he calls out "Pa!" each time we drive past.
This pic is Ollie having a last supper at our fave patisserie on election day (what election?). We might miss little things like that but the amenities around here more than make up for it. In fact there is a wonderful old-style bakery within walking distance so expect to see us all chunking up a bit over the coming weeks!
But leaving our old hood wasn't without its difficulties. I found it terribly sad on Ollie's last day at his old childcare. He has been going there for 8 months now and had a wonderful little friend called Hamish who he gave lots of big cuddles to each day. So I had been talking for a while about us leaving and having to say goodbye to Hamish but when the time came I was a bit upset that Ollie wouldn't realise that this was the last time he would see him. Silly I know but they were just such cute little friends. I wonder how poor Hamish is doing without Ollie to cheer him up with cuddles each morning? But it was lovely that the teachers in his room made a special card to tell him how much he would be missed. Very special indeed.
But luckily Obear has settled beautifully into his new daycare centre and Nick and I are both more than happy with it. In fact we think it is a lot better than his old one and B seems to be very happy there.
Also happier is Gus the cat who is just loving prowling around the backyard and under the house like some kind of tiger, from behind the safety of 6 ft fences.
Exhaustion has well and truly set in now so I will regale you with more tales from our bayside life next week.
