Merry Christmas - round 2

So Boxing Day afternoon we packed up the rest of the presents that Santa had left under our Christmas tree and took them over to Nanna Carmel and Grandpa Rob's house for the next instalment of Christmas 2010.

Ollie always has such a good time here because he just loves his aunties Emma & Hayley and Uncles Luke and Simon and Fiona. He gets so much attention normally so of course he was going to be the star of a Christmas gathering. Not surprisingly there were lots of lovely presents for him and by now he had totally got the hang of this present thing, wildly ripping paper off and declaring "that's mine" about any present that was around.

In keeping with his domestic goddess themed presents, Ollie got his very own shopping trolley and cash register, complete with groceries. He has been having a wonderful time pushing them around the house along with his newest friend, Jemima from Play School from Aunty Hayley, who he has had a real interest in lately (Jemima that is, not Hayley, he has always been interested in her). He was especially thrilled to receive Jemima after an incident we had a few weeks earlier when I let him hold her at the ABC shop (rookie mistake) and very nearly had to purchase her. Since then he has been holding her up when Play School is on and saying "same same".
Here is Ollie trying to figure out how to make the cash register work with Grandpa Rob. Although Ollie did have some useful tips I suspect Rob might have figured it out without his assistance.

Playing shop with Aunty Emma. My favourite part was when we taught him to say "thank you come again".

A shot of Ollie and his beloved Jemima the next day. It looks like true love. She has even been to the real grocery store with us now.

With Christmas behind us we have been having a lovely time just hanging out as a family. Our absolute favourite days have been the sunny ones where Nick has been able to get out on his new kayak while Ollie and I swim at the local beach. He is quite the little fish and has absolutely no fear of the water, sometimes diving straight in when he is fully clothed. We then often find ourselves at a local cafe having breakfast, all before 8.30am, shaking our heads in disbelief at the time and how time efficient you can be when you have a little person who wakes up at 5am!

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro...

Ollie is 13: the birthday blog

You are officially a teenager.  The big ONE THREE has finally come around.  I know I say it every year but it truly does feel like just moments since you came into this big world.  In typical fashion, you are I want to tell you some of the things that I will always remember about you at this age: - you were accepted into the academic excellence stream for high school and you not only kept your head above water, but finished your first year with an award for achieving five A's - your interest in photography and film has grown and you are enjoying making material and posting it online - something that makes me so very proud - your voice has gotten so deep.  You sound like a man, not the little boy I have grown used to talking to over all these years - you have become involved in drama at school and it fits you like a glove.  You have appeared on stage a number of times now and you are fearless in your performances - you got your first iphone.  This has...

Eve is 8: the birthday blog!

My youngest child is eight!! How can that be? Nearly three thousand days on this planet?? As I come to grips with this let me share with you some of the things I want to always remember about her at this age: -         She has a crush.  She wouldn’t tell me for ages who it was but Ollie knew and was sworn to secrecy which is super cute.  Plus I knew pretty early on anyway thanks to her writing his name all around the place with love hearts around it. -          She makes this makes this weird cat noise – like a hissing meow.   It’s sometimes accompanied by a strange claw like gesture and usually when she doesn’t like something that you’ve done.   Everyone who has ever heard it agrees that it’s REALLY annoying.   Conversely she has a high pitched squeak like a guinea pig when she is happy about something.   Basically she is just a small animal.   -     ...
