We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo!

We have been SUPER busy around here lately.  So much so that I will need to publish TWO blogs to tell you all about it!

The first exciting thing we did was go to the zoo.  Alma Park zoo to be precise.  Simply Brisbane's best.  And only.  I think that is the only way they can really make that claim.  But we picked up some really cheap tickets so it wasn't such a bust.  Although I wouldn't have been so thrilled if we had paid full price.

But moving right along, the kids thought it was totally awesome.   And isn't that the point?

Ol was terribly excited to see a red panda.

As was Evie.  She even blew it kisses.  Which she does in this terribly cute fashion at the moment using the back of her hand.  She doesn't just reserve this for cuddly animals, she also likes doing it to shop attendants.

There were LOTS of peacocks wandering around the zoo.  This is the first one Ol saw and tried to feed.  They were still a novelty at this point.

These were Ol's absolute favourites.  "The licky guys" or deer to the rest of us.  He just couldn't get enough of them eating food out of his hand with their little licky mouths and nuzzly noses.  He kept saying "I want to do that again!!!".

Not as soft and friendly but equally as cool  in Ol's eyes was the little crocodile he got to pat.

He also showed off his silky country skills by scaling the fence surrounding the cows. Even in his super skinny jeans.

My little zoo guys.

We rounded out the zoo trip with a nice picnic in the grounds.  Where we were joined by...

a pesky peacock!! Who just could not get enough of our lunch, which Nick was feeding him to "make him go away".  But strangely enough he kept coming back for more.  The kids weren't particularly troubled by his presence.

You might have noticed Ol's shirt.  He was testing out the first prototype of a new Mini Mayhem shirt.  Even though he said it wasn't his favourite and he didn't want to wear it, it seems that other people do.

And despite completely failing to watch the Olympic opening ceremony we have been a little in the Olympic spirit around here.  Ol has especially enjoyed watching the really fast runners and practicing his own sprints up and down the hallway.  He has also really embraced the idea of a gold medal and the winners of any of his games (such as where have I hidden the toy - in the toy microwave, every time!) gets an enthusiastic "congratulations, you get a gold metal (sic) and a gold trophy!"

Loveliest moment of the week?  When Ol was saying goodnight to Evie and blew her two kisses and asked me to put them in her pyjamas so she could get them out later if she was missing her brother.  What beautiful children.

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc...

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro...

HE’S OFF

Friends of ours have two kids who are a few years older than Obear so we’ve been to a few birthday parties at their place over the years.  Twice a year we get to catch up with their various friends and have seen many of them pregnant, with babies and now with bigger kids.  It is amazing to see them all grow up.  This time last year we rocked out there with our tiny three week old baby who Nick held protectively throughout the party.  This year he was walking around by himself and even managed a small level of involvement in pass the parcel.  By the next party in November he will no doubt be tearing around and in years to come he can really get into the festivities with the bigger kids and hopefully look out for his younger sibling. It was while we were at the party today that I noticed something new in Ollie’s mouth – two top teeth!  Finally the two front teeth are starting to cut through.  I must concede that I was starting to wonder if he was de...
