This big boy now goes to school. How crazy does that sound??
You won't be surprised to hear that he has been looking forward to this for a long time. Lots of new things to learn, getting to hang out with his best mates at lunchtime and being away from me for five days a week, what could be better!
Probably because we had been gearing up for this for so long, the day itself was a walk in the park. Ol woke up at a ridiculously early hour and Nick and I had the joy of watching him on the video monitor singing over and over again "its my first day of school today"!
The excitement continued to grow we got him into his new uniform and his shiny new giant shoes (he is a size 1 now, that is madness).
With his lunch packed into his bag (with a laminated photo of all of us to keep him company) we headed up to his school where we saw about a hundred little Ollie clones, all looking so tiny in their new school clothes.
Ol is lucky enough to have his two best mates in his year along with a few other friends he knows. But he doesn't know anyone in his actual class. This hasn't worried him as much as it has worried me. He completely took it in his stride when we went to get him settle in to his classroom. Nick and I saw that he had it under control so after a few minutes we said our goodbyes and headed off. We may possibly have snuck back a few times just to make sure he was, but of course he was having a blast.
Apparently we might have left a little too quickly as he gave me strict orders to stick around the next day until the teacher said that the parents had to leave.
But we all survived the week, even though I made him walk home from school a few times (but mummy, why are you making me do this????). I managed to send him off with nutritious lunches everyday, we got there before the bell each day and we didn't lose anything (except his drink bottle on the first day but we found that the next day).
All in all I'd say it was a resounding success.
Does he love school? You bet he does. He is keen to get back there again tomorrow and he is already talking about what he will do when he gets to university. Thats our Ol.
