In the quiet times...

You might have thought that with Ol turning five and starting school it was all about him lately.

Well you might have been a teeny bit right.  But you know what?  Since Ol started school there has been a fair bit more quiet around here than usual.  And do you know what I've learned…

I've learned that this girl can count to ten.  She knows all the words to "Baa baa black sheep".  She knows lots of colours.  I've never sat down and taught her these things the way that I did with Ol.  I don't have the time.  But it's great to see that by osmosis (and thanks to her daycare mum!) a lot of things are seeping in.

She is doing a lot of big girl things lately.  She is learning how to ride a bike.  She has swimming lessons by herself now while I sit by the side and sip coffee.  She wears big girl undies instead of nappies, but only if they've got Disney princesses on them, preferably Snow White, followed closely by Cinderella.

We've also started to tackle a few things as well like the thumb sucking and wooby snuggling.  Which to be honest is super cute and a real bonus when she is tired and you just want to give her a cue to cuddle up to you and be quiet. But in the interest of future orthodontic bills, it is probably not a habit that we want to foster past three.

It is just great to see that she is finally getting her time.  She has spent nearly three years fitting into her bigger, louder brother's schedule.  We still find our days are structured around him - especially having to wake her up to get him each afternoon - but the hours between 8.50 and 2.50 each day are all about this little sweet pea.

At least once a day she tells me "me not a big girl mumma (I love that she calls me mumma), me a baby".  You might not be A baby any more sweet girl, but you'll always be MY baby. xxx

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc...

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro...

Eve is 10: the birthday blog

Double digits?? Say what?!?!?! Did I blink and miss the last decade of you being in my life? The little girl who came along and tipped my world it on it's head.  The little tornado of sweetness and light, chaos and bonkers, all wrapped into one perfect little human. To make sure I always remember you as you become a tween, here are some of the things about you that are special: - ABBA - I'm not sure where this obsession came from but you cannot get enough of them.  You have our spotify account jumping from one ABBA song to the next all day long.  Mamma Mia 1 and 2 (who knew there was a second one??) are your absolute favourite movies and you talk about the characters life you've known them for years. - You are doing an amazing job of music at school.  You are in your second year of fife and have joined the senior fife band where you had to memorise all of the songs so you could march in formation for your performances.  Your fife is usually not too far fr...
