To my beautiful eleven year old daughter. Another year has flown by and you are another year older in the blink of an eye.
Let me share some of the things I will always remember about you at this age.
- You got a phone. Probably one of the biggest changes this year. Like all young people, you see it as an extension of your hand and you need to be reminded to get off it quite a lot.
- You fronted up for another season of netball, despite your protestations. It is so lovely to see you out on the court supporting your team mates.
- You are seriously addicted to Roblox. Like seriously! You could happily spend hours playing with your friends on there, or even side by side if you’re hanging out together.
- You humour is wicked and sometimes savage. Your timing is ridiculously on point sometimes.
- You’re not to old or too cool to play with your dolls. Sometimes they still get dusted off and dressed up. There have even been a few haircuts for some of them.
- You love listening to audio stories when you’re hanging out in your room.
- You love making crazy potions in the shower. As a result, we go through shampoo, conditioner and bath wash at a fast rate. You even managed to turn my conditioner blue once. Much to my horror.
- You still adore watching Friends. I think you must have seen every episode at least a hundred times and you don’t appear to be slowing down.
- Roller skating is still a thing for us but with our favourite (and closest) rink closing down, we’ve had less opportunities.
- You’ve got a great bunch of friends at school but we are starting to see some of the female schoolyard dynamics at play. You’ve had a few times when you’ve convinced yourself something was a really big deal, only to then realise it was absolutely nothing.
- But you’ve still got your bestie, the one who has been there since prep. We’ve had more sleepovers than ever before this year and it feels almost more natural just to have you both here together.
- You love our sushi dates and you are a creature of habit with you having the same three plates each and every time.
- You squabble with your brother constantly. You niggle at each other like it is a competitive sport.
- You are getting so good at your drawings. Sometimes I’ll show you how I might draw a different eye or a smile and you take onboard this advice enthusiastically.
- You have started drama classes each week and you have a speaking role in the upcoming school musical. You are not shy and love to ham it up for a crowd.
- You still love your cuddle toys. The number of them have gone up this year rather than down. But I love knowing you’ve always got a few friends in there to keep you company in the middle of the night.
- You are such a chatterbox. Sometimes I wonder if you are ever going to come up for air. But I love hearing all of the little pieces of your day.
- You got an academic medal at the end of grade four which I know meant so very much to you. I see that there is a very big shadow cast by your beautiful brother and I recognise the pressure you sometimes feel to have the same success. But you continue to impress us, with six A’s last term and being selected as your class representative in the writer’s program.
My sweet little snuggles. You are one of my two proudest achievements. Your kindness, compassion, humour and a bit of sass makes you a pretty spectacular human. I love the time we spend together, from early morning cuddles in your bed to our dance party drives to netball. You have me half the time in hysterics to the other half pulling my hair out. You are certainly one of a kind. I am always so proud to be your mumma. That has never changed. I love you so much.
