Three whole days

As last weekend was a long weekend, Ollie and I were thrilled to have Nick home with us for three whole days. We packed the weekend with lots of activities including catching up with lots of friends. One day we had lunch with our friends Rachel & Christian to talk about our exciting trip to Bali next year when they get married. On the next day we had our friends Ben & Cec over with their little boy Darcy who is only a few weeks older than Ollie. At one point the boys held the babies quite close together and they both let out big beaming smiles. The boys also cheekily put the babies in the port-a-cot together and made lots of jokes about it being a cage match. Fortunately the babies weren't in the mood for fighting.

Another lovely activity was going for a long walk as a family. Ollie and I normally go for a big walk in the pram most days to get us both out of the house and have some fresh air. But it was nice to have Nick join us on such a lovely day and we topped it off with a spot of breakfast at a local cafe.

I've included a pic of me playing Ollie's new favourite game - aeroplanes!! Nick tried it out with him the other week and since then it has been trotted out many times. Ollie thinks it is hilarious to zoom through the air above our heads. The one thing I am worried about is that lately he has been spewing lots so I figure it is only a matter of time before either Nick or I wear a big warm pile of puke on our faces. Fingers crossed it is Nick, and that I have the video camera out at the time - finalists on 'Funniest home videos' here we come.

Olliebear is also getting a lot more chatty. He makes the most gorgeous little throaty sounds and he have a great time taking turns to chat away in baby language. I'm being super careful to make sure I give him a chance to speak back to me as I know that I have a tendency to talk a bit (alright, I could talk underwater) and I don't want him to end up mute because of me. I can't wait for him to start making a few more sounds - one of the babies in our mother's group who is a bit older is making "mamamamama" sounds. I can't wait to hear that one!

As usual, an update on the sleep. Up until last night Ollie had been sleeping right through the night every night. The mornings had been getting a little bit earlier, with wake up around 5.30 am. But I couldn't really complain, especially after talking with the other mothers this week, some of whom are really suffering with babies who need feeding every 2-3 hours throughout the night. Last night Ollie didn't feed well when he went down which could account for him waking just after midnight for a feed. I'm not sure what to expect tonight - I suspect that the break in the pattern may mean we regress, but I'll just wait and see.

Finally, a big thank you to Nick for encouraging me to start an activity on my own each week. Last night I went to my first yoga class at a local yoga school. It is very serious yoga, a lot more so than any classes I have been to before. There was only five of us in the class so you get a lot of personal adjustment (which hurts - a lot!!). It felt great just to shut my mind off for 1 1/2 hours and I'm looking forward to improving over the next few classes, but I can tell you, it hurts like anything today. Lifting a 7kg baby all day with sore arms has been cruel!

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc...

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro...

Cos we are living in a material world...

It has been a week of new purchases in the Dower household. As Ollie is nearing the six month mark when he will start eating solids (or mushies as they should really be called), we thought it was time to get ourselves a highchair. You'd be surprised at how many different kinds you can get and after lots of research I worked out exactly which one I wanted. So of course, that was the one that had just been discontinued!! Anyway, we bought a similar one and it got delivered to our house ... in pieces. I couldn't wait for Nick to come home to put it together so I gave it a crack and after managing to find a screwdriver (the most challenging part of the process) I successfully negotiated the instructions until the object before me resembled the one on the box. Ollie and I both held our breath the first time I put him in it, but it held his weight (not an insignificant amount). Ollie seems to like his highchair for reasonable periods of time and I have found it a godsend as it en...
