With Nick finishing work for the year we thought it would be great to get away to the coast for a few nights to ease into the holidays before Christmas hit.

It was also the perfect opportunity for me to experience one of my Christmas presents from Nick – zorbing.  For anyone who hasn’t heard of this, it basically involves diving headfirst into an inflatable bubble that is filled with 40L of water and hurtling down a hill.  Before you wonder what I did to Nick to warrant this punishment, it is actually something I have wanted to do for ages and the experience was as good as I expected, so good I’m glad I got to do it twice.

Once zorbing was done we had quite an appetite so ducked into a nearby McDonalds.  Not our finest culinary experience but we were on holidays and it was easy.  Ollie hadn’t been before and was pretty taken with all the action in the playground area.  He also got to experience chicken nuggets.  I actually have a personal issue with these morsels as they are made from the dregs of the chicken and I’m also worried about having a child who will only eat them and not try other more delicious food.  Despite these issues I let OBear try them out and after having a taste myself, I’m not too worried.  They taste awful.

The rest of our trip was spent relaxing, reading books, watching movies and lazing around the pool.  On one of our many trips to the neighbouring shops, Ollie and I had a go on a carousel which was pretty tame given we sat in the carriage rather than the hairy scary horses that go up and down.  Maybe next time?

We left on Christmas Eve, just in time wrap up the rest of the pressies to put under the tree and to tell Ollie that any noises he heard on the roof that night were Santa and his reindeer, definitely not just the usual garden variety of possum tearing around up there.

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc...

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro...

Cos we are living in a material world...

It has been a week of new purchases in the Dower household. As Ollie is nearing the six month mark when he will start eating solids (or mushies as they should really be called), we thought it was time to get ourselves a highchair. You'd be surprised at how many different kinds you can get and after lots of research I worked out exactly which one I wanted. So of course, that was the one that had just been discontinued!! Anyway, we bought a similar one and it got delivered to our house ... in pieces. I couldn't wait for Nick to come home to put it together so I gave it a crack and after managing to find a screwdriver (the most challenging part of the process) I successfully negotiated the instructions until the object before me resembled the one on the box. Ollie and I both held our breath the first time I put him in it, but it held his weight (not an insignificant amount). Ollie seems to like his highchair for reasonable periods of time and I have found it a godsend as it en...
