Bali Bali Bali!!!!

Finally the time has come for our Bali trip for Rach & Christian’s wedding.  We have been looking forward to this for so long but I’ve also been pretty apprehensive about Ollie B’s first overseas trip.  Thankfully, the trip over here went off without a hitch (except for the tears when Panda had to go through the x-ray machine at Customs).

Ever the seasoned flyer, Ollie was asleep within a few minutes of take-off (just like his Mummy).  He got through the rest of the six hour flight by indulging his love of Yo Gabba Gabba and Sesame Street on the laptop and Nick and I celebrated our triumph over a glass or two of wine.

The real joy started when we hit the arrivals hall to the dodgy new immigration process (ie they now have computers!).  This took about an hour and a half, which was less than the five hour delays I had been hearing about.  Ollie kept himself amused by cuddling and kissing the six year old girl he had met on the plane.  He is such a ladies man. Then we had to get through the rigorous Indo Customs which meant one lady sitting on her Iphone texting while we loaded our bags onto an unattended xray machine.

Once out the airport we still had to get up to Ubud.  Normally about an hour, this took even longer as we kept getting caught up in processions for a religious holiday – like we were literally part of the procession.  Ollie thought it was awesome, waving and giggling at the people walking past us all prettied up in their garb and carrying offerings.

We eventually got to our villa and got Obear down for the night.  He was so exhausted that he went off without too much fuss.  Right through until his normal wake up time, in Australia!!  That is another story.  Fingers crossed there is no repeat tomorrow morning.

Today has been a lovely day of unwinding up here in the peace and tranquility of Ubud.  We went out and checked out the markets (didn’t buy anything – seriously not into shopping which is troubling).  Had a lovely time at Cafe Lotus where Ollie got to feed the fish some bread, but he actually ate half of it himself.

We are learning that Bali is even better with little (fair haired, fair skinned) babies.  Everyone wants to say hi to him and give him cuddles, bread for fish, chocolate wafers etc.  He is well and truly spoilt here.

The place we are staying in is A-MAY-ZING!!! It is a whole floor of a two storey house set amongst the rice paddies.  The grounds are lush and the staff are so sweet.  I am sitting here on the day bed enjoying the wi-fi while listening to distant gamelan music, geckos and dogs barking while the lights dim and rise according to the dodgy generator.  It is so beautiful and we are relishing in the chance to ease into our holiday before heading down to Seminyak and the wedding excitement in the next few days.

You’ll all be pleased to see that Pandy made the trip, even though he didn’t have a passport.  He has gotten quite filthy in the last 24 hours but Ollie’s love for him seems to be even greater over here and he is getting carted/thrown around everywhere.  Stay tuned for pics of Pandy out and about, perhaps AJ Hackett Bungy or the Hard Rock Cafe (not likely!).

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc...

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro...

Cos we are living in a material world...

It has been a week of new purchases in the Dower household. As Ollie is nearing the six month mark when he will start eating solids (or mushies as they should really be called), we thought it was time to get ourselves a highchair. You'd be surprised at how many different kinds you can get and after lots of research I worked out exactly which one I wanted. So of course, that was the one that had just been discontinued!! Anyway, we bought a similar one and it got delivered to our house ... in pieces. I couldn't wait for Nick to come home to put it together so I gave it a crack and after managing to find a screwdriver (the most challenging part of the process) I successfully negotiated the instructions until the object before me resembled the one on the box. Ollie and I both held our breath the first time I put him in it, but it held his weight (not an insignificant amount). Ollie seems to like his highchair for reasonable periods of time and I have found it a godsend as it en...
