Merry Christmas - round 1

Well Christmas season is officially over. We have had a fantastic time here - hence the lack of blog. But I'll make up for it with three, that's right THREE, blogs today. We have so many photos I had trouble narrowing them down!

Christmas round one kicked off on Christmas Eve with Ollie helping me to write a letter to Santa (including his caution to be careful on the stairs). We baked some Christmas tree shaped cookies to leave out as well as some carrot shaped ones as we didn't have any real carrots to leave for the reindeer. Ol was then allowed to stay up late to watch the Carols on TV as well as "Shrek the Halls". A very sleepy boy then went to sleep without much resistance.

Christmas morning didn't start especially early for us, probably because we are normally all getting up at 5am anyway. Ollie was beyond excited to see that Santa had left him the present that he had asked for - a life jacket, so he can go out on the kayak with Nick.

There were also lots of other pressies under the tree including Duplo, rattles, some clothes, a lovely jewellery box for Evie and awesome DJ Hero for me!!

We had an early start for the official part of the day over at Nanna Carmel's house as poor Aunty Emma was working a shift that night. So the beautiful little elves got prettied up and we got on the road. We had a fabulous day with all of the Brisbane Aunties and Uncles as well as lovely (not so) little cousin Alex who was also enjoying his first Christmas. Of course Ollie & Evie got completely spoiled with lots of lovely gifts. Ol's favourite is probably my least favourite - a drum set!!! Thanks Aunty Hayley. But he has had a great time bashing it out, at least on the occasions that it isn't locked away in my cupboard!

Ollie the elf chucking a tantrum. I couldn't resist. Definite 21st fodder.

Maybe the highlight of Christmas for Ollie? Getting to bust out his life jacket from Santa. Boxing day was a beautiful day so the boys went down the road for a little paddle. Evie and I walked along the shore watching them and I must concede that I was totally terrified the whole time, despite knowing that Ollie was tethered to Nick. I shouldn't have worried. It turns out that Ollie was perfectly well behaved and even asked Nick to stop paddling for a bit so they could just sit out there and enjoy the view together. What a great activity for the two of them to do together. Nick and I are now dreaming of a double kayak in a few years time so the four of us can paddle together.

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc...

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro...

Cos we are living in a material world...

It has been a week of new purchases in the Dower household. As Ollie is nearing the six month mark when he will start eating solids (or mushies as they should really be called), we thought it was time to get ourselves a highchair. You'd be surprised at how many different kinds you can get and after lots of research I worked out exactly which one I wanted. So of course, that was the one that had just been discontinued!! Anyway, we bought a similar one and it got delivered to our house ... in pieces. I couldn't wait for Nick to come home to put it together so I gave it a crack and after managing to find a screwdriver (the most challenging part of the process) I successfully negotiated the instructions until the object before me resembled the one on the box. Ollie and I both held our breath the first time I put him in it, but it held his weight (not an insignificant amount). Ollie seems to like his highchair for reasonable periods of time and I have found it a godsend as it en...
