Camping at Straddie

We've just had school holidays here so we packed our little crew (& a bunch of stuff) up and went to Stradbroke Island for a week of camping.

This was our first family foray into hardcore, no electricity, fetch your own water, no toilet camping. The potential was there for it to be a total unmitigated disaster, but somehow miraculously it all worked out just fine.

That isn't to say it wasn't without it's challenges. We arrived on the island just as the grey clouds started to roll in but thankfully the rain held off long enough for the boys to get most of the big items set up. Then it really started to bucket down!! Our first night was spend using pegs to stop leaks between our gazebos and catching rainwater in buckets. Less than ideal but the kids didn't seem to mind in the slightest.

Day two was much better, and after that the days just got even more gorgeous. We drove the cars on the beaches, the big boys surfed and the little boys frolicked in the surf. The two little ones enjoyed nothing more than soaking in a giant bucket at the end of the day, a total necessity with the amount of filth they were covered in!

Seriously, best babysitting device ever!!

We were all pretty sad to see the end of our trip, especially since we left our camping pals back on the island. Next time we will need to stay for two weeks!! We are definitely a bunch of happy campers!!

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro...

Eve is 8: the birthday blog!

My youngest child is eight!! How can that be? Nearly three thousand days on this planet?? As I come to grips with this let me share with you some of the things I want to always remember about her at this age: -         She has a crush.  She wouldn’t tell me for ages who it was but Ollie knew and was sworn to secrecy which is super cute.  Plus I knew pretty early on anyway thanks to her writing his name all around the place with love hearts around it. -          She makes this makes this weird cat noise – like a hissing meow.   It’s sometimes accompanied by a strange claw like gesture and usually when she doesn’t like something that you’ve done.   Everyone who has ever heard it agrees that it’s REALLY annoying.   Conversely she has a high pitched squeak like a guinea pig when she is happy about something.   Basically she is just a small animal.   -     ...

Ollie is 13: the birthday blog

You are officially a teenager.  The big ONE THREE has finally come around.  I know I say it every year but it truly does feel like just moments since you came into this big world.  In typical fashion, you are I want to tell you some of the things that I will always remember about you at this age: - you were accepted into the academic excellence stream for high school and you not only kept your head above water, but finished your first year with an award for achieving five A's - your interest in photography and film has grown and you are enjoying making material and posting it online - something that makes me so very proud - your voice has gotten so deep.  You sound like a man, not the little boy I have grown used to talking to over all these years - you have become involved in drama at school and it fits you like a glove.  You have appeared on stage a number of times now and you are fearless in your performances - you got your first iphone.  This has...
