Eve is 10: the birthday blog

Double digits?? Say what?!?!?! Did I blink and miss the last decade of you being in my life? The little girl who came along and tipped my world it on it's head.  The little tornado of sweetness and light, chaos and bonkers, all wrapped into one perfect little human.

To make sure I always remember you as you become a tween, here are some of the things about you that are special:

- ABBA - I'm not sure where this obsession came from but you cannot get enough of them.  You have our spotify account jumping from one ABBA song to the next all day long.  Mamma Mia 1 and 2 (who knew there was a second one??) are your absolute favourite movies and you talk about the characters life you've known them for years.
- You are doing an amazing job of music at school.  You are in your second year of fife and have joined the senior fife band where you had to memorise all of the songs so you could march in formation for your performances.  Your fife is usually not too far from your hands and you whistle your days away.
- you then took up the flute, which you'd think would be similar to the fife, but has proved more challenging for you.  But you've knuckled down and persisted and you are reaping the benefits of practice making perfect.
- you still love a good strop.  Most of them involve something to do with missing out of some kind of delicious food.  You know that no strop has ever yielded the result you desire but you just can't back down when you've committed to the cause.
- you absolutely LOVE F.r.i.e.n.d.s. As in the show.  You have watched every single episode at least twenty times.  You rock at the trivia game.  You talk about things that Rachel, Monica and Phoebe have been up to like I'm chatting with a girlfriend and it's the 90's again.  You are obsessed!
- you have your first male school teacher.  I think you might have the teeniest tiniest crush on him.  You are always telling me about what he has been up to on the weekends and about his YouTube channel!
- you have a real penchant for cheesy American television shows (see above re: Friends). But any kind of cheese will do.  Fuller House rates highly as does any show that involves high school and impromptu musical interludes..
- you have at least two-hundred and thirty-five cuddle toys on your bed.  You arrange them all perfectly each night before bed.  I'm not entirely sure there is any room left for you but somehow you find a way.
- you can talk underwater.  Literally.  A five minute car journey can be a non-stop update of every little detail of your day.  You have been known to talk over anyone else who might like to sneak a few words too.  But it's just great that you want to share with us what has been going on in your world.
- rollerskating is still a thing.  Your party is going to be at the roller rink which we are so sad is to close down in the coming months.  You can't wait to share this special place with your friends.
- you got your ears pierced.  You've been waiting since as long as i can remember. Now you can take them out, you've found yourself with far too many earrings to wear, yet you're still eyeing off my collection.
- you are back for season three of netball.  This time on the hard courts.  You love your team mates and the general gist of the game.  You just need to somehow get that real killer edge.
- you love to draw. Your skills have gone up massively this year with your style veering a little more down the anime path.  You love to incorporate fashion into your drawings as well.
- you see the best in everyone.  Even when someone has done something terribly mean to you or someone you love, you still find a way to see the positive in their situation.
- you are full of empathy.  You find yourself upset sometimes at the sad situations that others are going through.  You want to make everything better and you swoop in to help those around you.

You are incredibly headstrong and determined.  You are kind and caring, brave and thoughtful.  All of the qualities I would admire in another adult.  You have them in absolute spades.  If you keep along this path you will be the most wonderful young woman i have ever encountered.

Your entire family love the person you are become and we are so proud of you.

You care about what your friends think until a point.  And then you march to the beat of your own drum.  I have to say it's a pretty great tune you are rocking.

Thank you for being you, whatever that looks like depending which way the wind is blowing at the time.  One thing I can always say is you make it interesting.

You were the little girl I always knew i wanted.  And so, so much more.

My snuggle bunny.  My sweet little pea.  The one who still lets me be the mummy.  Please don't get too cool to let me cuddle you, let me hold your hand when I pick you up from school and be proud to be seen with me.  I promise you we will have all the mani pedi dates and earring shopping expeditions you can dream of.  But sometimes I just want to lay in your bed and stroke your back and tell you how much I love you.

Thank you for letting me.

xx

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro

Eve is 11: the birthday blog

To my beautiful eleven year old daughter. Another year has flown by and you are another year older in the blink of an eye. Let me share some of the things I will always remember about you at this age. - You got a phone. Probably one of the biggest changes this year. Like all young people, you see it as an extension of your hand and you need to be reminded to get off it quite a lot. - You fronted up for another season of netball, despite your protestations. It is so lovely to see you out on the court supporting your team mates. - You are seriously addicted to Roblox. Like seriously! You could happily spend hours playing with your friends on there, or even side by side if you’re hanging out together. - You humour is wicked and sometimes savage. Your timing is ridiculously on point sometimes. - You’re not to old or too cool to play with your dolls. Sometimes they still get dusted off and dressed up. There have even been a few haircuts for some of them. - You love listening to audio stor
