Tansy's 37th birthday

It was my 37th birthday the other day.  I'm not one of those people who mopes and moans about getting older.  Quite frankly I think it is an absolute privilege to age another year.  So in keeping with this, we always make sure we celebrate these milestones really well. My lovely two little ones and Nick made, well bought, an ice-cream cake which we all happily devoured for dessert on the day.  This photo makes me smile - can you say blue eyes?? Not that ice-cream cake and a night at home isn't enough for me, but I was also lucky enough to be taken to see the amazing Bernard Fanning play a small gig at the Triffid. Nick and I even managed to have some of our favourite calamari fritte and duck ragu beforehand at Beccofino, our old favourite restaurant from our Teneriffe days. It was really a super night - especially since earlier in the evening I had found out that I would now be working alongside Nick for my day job.  This is a super great thing...

Christmas 2014

With the fun we had on Christmas day already becoming a fading memory, it is a great time to share with you our little video of our day.  I hope you enjoy it...

Ollie's sixth birthday science party

By now you all know that I go a tad bonkers for the kid's birthday parties.  I've given up apologising for this, I can't help it, it makes me happy and my kids happy so we've made our peace with it! Ol decided he wanted to have a science themed birthday party for his sixth birthday after they had a science morning at school.  Our little guy loves experiments so I was mad keen but I just couldn't justify the pricey packages offered by local science party entertainers.  Never one to shy away from a DIY party I was pretty sure I could just buy a jumbo bottle of hydrogen peroxide and keep the kiddos amazed by myself.  The cake was a science experiment in itself.  With gravity defying beakers of green and blue slime oozing down onto the cake, a Katherine Sabbath inspired chocolate bark explosion in the background and lots of bubbling goodness, I think I kept it pretty simple... I applied a liberal dose of green across the party as it is Ol's favo...

The birthday blog: our boy is six!

Six whole years have passed now since the doctor handed me that teeny tiny perfect little human.  I had absolutely no idea what I was supposed to do with you.  I had no real experience in looking after babies or children and barely even any that counted in pet ownership (hello, Gus anyone???). But we found our way.  We figured it out and the years have flown by.  So let me tell you a few of the things I love about this past year. - you had your first year of school.  You not only survived prep but you rocked it!  You made so many  lovely new friends, both boys and girls, and your teacher thought you were really well behaved and a good listener.  Well played! - you can read.  Like really read. You can pick up normal books from your shelves and read them.  You read signs we drive past and things that are written on the television.  I can no longer spell things out to your father in the hope of sneaking them past you! - you...

Christmas 2014

Christmas was only a week and a bit ago but it already seems like ages have passed.   Our crew and Nanna Freddie & Poppy convoyed up to Perigean Beach - one of our favourite little places.  We had a lovely house for 10 nights with our own pool and directly across the road from the beach.  Needless to say, a lovely time was had by all - especially the little ratbags who had the time of their lives. Before we headed up though we still had to have a tree at our place.  This year I let the kids decorate it all by themselves, so it goes without saying that it looked like a schmozzle.  But a beautiful one that they were extremely proud of.  Pretty, perfect Christmas trees have got nothing on ones decorated with love (and limited height range!). The day after the tree went up the little ones awoke to the arrival of our faithful fairies who have set their door up under our Christmas tree for three years now.  They always delight us with th...

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

School's out for summer! Our big boy has finished his first year of school and done a fantastic job. It seems that he saves all of his best behaviour for his teachers who think he is the sweetest of peas. Which he is. Most of the time. We spent the first day of the school holidays lining up to see Santa. Well an hour anyway. Our two trotted out the cutest of smiles right on cue and were promptly rewarded with sushi for lunch.  The next day of the holidays was spent at the pool with our bestest of friends followed by fish and chips at the beach. These kids have the loveliest little existence and on great days like this one I think they actually know it. Since I've got another week of work before I kick off my holidays, Ollie has headed down to the Gold Coast with Nanna Carmel & Grandpa Rob for a few days. Nick and I are always a bit sad to see him go and Eve is definitely a sooky pants when her big brother isn't there at bedtime. But it seems that Ol is hardly missing us...

Spoooooooooky

We truly love Halloween around here. Each year it gets bigger and better and this year it was spread over an entire weekend.  Friday during the day we got to watch the ferris wheel and all the other rides getting set up at the park at the end of the street.  That night we headed down with a bunch of our closest friends for a movie in the park.  The kids had their eyes glued to the screen but I couldn't stop looking at them and their pals, feeling so thankful that we have such a wonderful little existence here.  It might have been a spooky occasion but I had nothing but love in my heart. The next night was the real deal.  Proper costumes were busted out - Vampire for Ollie and Pocahontas for Eve.  All of my efforts at making Eve a costume were undone once I added the final detail - black hairspray for both of them.  Ol managed to keep his reasonably together.  But within seconds it seems that Eve had rubbed her little black head all over ...

A new way of life.

We are still here.  Just living a bit differently these days. What has brought about this change?  We are hoping to buy our own home in the not too distant future.  Which has brought about the need for paid employment for me.  I was lucky enough to land the first job I applied for, doing marketing, writing blogs and running social media for an architecture firm.  A bit of a crazy career change from being a lawyer, but with everything I've been doing for Mini Mayhem over the past few years I've picked up a few skills.   So now I find myself working three days each week.  It is certainly more of a juggle than before.  Thankfully Nanna Carmel has been a great help and is looking after Eve one of the days each week, including taking Ol to and from school.  I know Ol gets a real kick out taking his nanna along.   I am supremely grateful that Nick is such a super dooper husband.  If he weren't so helpful around the hou...

Father's Day - You are something special

It is Father's Day today. A day for the giving of socks and jocks, homemade cards and keychains with photos and drawings inside them.  We typically celebrate Father's (and Mother's) day with no big ticket items, just a lot of love and creativity. In keeping with this theme I whipped up a little movie for Nick, showing him why we think he is something special.  It took a few evenings of surreptitious editing and a few plays for the kids when Nick was at work. This morning we played it for Nick after we'd given him all of his little presents.  He definitely loved it.  How could I tell?  He may have gotten a little dust in both of his eyes simultaneously.  Success!!! Here it is so you can have a little sneaky peek.
