Stunt baby!!!

Ollie got his special little helmet last Monday. As you can see it is blue camoflague print which is pretty cute, but if we take him into a blue forest, it is going to be mighty difficult to find him.

He has adapted really well to wearing it, with no problems sleeping at all. And it stops him from scratching at his head all the time which is a plus. Another plus is the extra protection it provides at this time when he is still getting his balance. At baby group the other day he keeled over and knocked his noggin on a chair leg. We all held our breath but Ollie just looked at us all like "what??" and went on with his playing.
After having only worn it for six nights we can already see a massive improvement in the shape of his head. I've included a pic of him from overhead so you can see the gap where his head is being encouraged to grow. That was taken on the first day. So far the bottom plate has popped out significantly but I hope the top one won't be too far behind. We have an appointment in three weeks (so after he has worn it for a month) to check on his progress so fingers crossed it has pretty much sorted itself out by then.
Today we took advantage of the beautiful weather and went and had a foodless picnic at the Botanical Gardens. We sat beside the lake and Ollie watched the ducks, which he loved. We can't wait to go again. Those ducks better look out once Ollie gets moving around though. We actually ran into some friends of ours who happened to be the next group of people picnic-ing over from us. They noted our tragic lack of food and swung us some great homemade lamingtons.

Check out the last pic. We had dinner with the Brisbane based Aunties and Uncles the other night and got Emma to dig out some of Nick's baby photos. We were all absolutely gobsmacked by this pic of Nick when he was about the same age as Ollie. Apart from the slightly darker hair, it is Ollie to an absolute tee. Spooky stuff.

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc...

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro...

Cos we are living in a material world...

It has been a week of new purchases in the Dower household. As Ollie is nearing the six month mark when he will start eating solids (or mushies as they should really be called), we thought it was time to get ourselves a highchair. You'd be surprised at how many different kinds you can get and after lots of research I worked out exactly which one I wanted. So of course, that was the one that had just been discontinued!! Anyway, we bought a similar one and it got delivered to our house ... in pieces. I couldn't wait for Nick to come home to put it together so I gave it a crack and after managing to find a screwdriver (the most challenging part of the process) I successfully negotiated the instructions until the object before me resembled the one on the box. Ollie and I both held our breath the first time I put him in it, but it held his weight (not an insignificant amount). Ollie seems to like his highchair for reasonable periods of time and I have found it a godsend as it en...
