Meet Betsy

We have a new family member.  Her name is Betsy and she is 98 years old.

The other week while ambling through one of the local op shops (we have 14 of them within a few blocks.  I just can't help myself) I spied this beautiful piano - again.  I had seen it a few times but at the ridiculously exorbitant price of $200 I couldn't justify it.  Until,  HALF PRICE SALE!!  That's right - $100. Needless to say she came to live with us.

She is in amazingly good condition for her age.  And we know her exact age as she came with the original certificate and warranty from 1915 as well as a receipt for when she changed hands in 1980.

I cannot tell you how excited I was by this purchase.  I have always wanted to have my own piano and I especially wanted one that the children could play.  Ollie always has such a fabulous time playing the one at our playgroup hall - even if it is usually dinosaurs he is using to push the keys.

Thankfully I only had to wait two days for Betsy to be delivered and since then I have played her each day.  She is only a little bit out of tune (I'll sort that out soon) but I guess that is a good excuse for it not sounding perfect!  I'm amazed that I can still remember enough to be able read sheet music.  I'm not planning on putting on any recitals soon but I am finding it so calming to be able to go downstairs each evening and losing myself in a song for half an hour - especially after the ridiculously noisy and chaotic days we have around here.  Kind of like my own form of meditation.

I'm not the only one enjoying it.  Ollie is completely hooked too.  And for those of you who are so inclined to access the video, here he is busting out a fairly unique rendition of Baa baa black sheep.  Enjoy.

Food, friends and footy.

This week Ollie and I had a special visitor all the way from Cloncurry - our friend Jesse. Jesse came to play at Camp Ollie for a few hours while his mum had some very well deserved shopping time. Ollie and Jesse played lots of fun games like cups and Jesse was very helpful to me during the afternoon. Another exciting event this week was Nick and my third wedding anniversary. To celebrate we went to the lovely E'cco restaurant on Saturday night, thanks to Aunty Em who stayed over at our place to look after Ollie. Thankfully Ollie was on his best behaviour, as opposed to some of the other nights recently that have seen me popping into his room a number of times in the early hours of the morning. Ollie got to see his Aunty Em again the next day when we went over to the McNaughton/Dower home to celebrate Aunty Hayley's birthday and to catch up with Uncle Luke. Hayley cooked the wonderful family birthday tradition of Flat Meat (hard to describe but kind of like a thinner sc...

Movieworld!

I told you last week that we had been busy having lots of fun around here and another of our fun activities (this time while Nanna Freddy was here) was a trip to Movieworld. But as I'm currently heat pressing fifty odd t-shirts for this weekend's big market, I am only able to make it to the computer in 40 second stints.  It isn't that I'm worried about scorching the shirts, but the heat press has this dreadful tinky asian sounding song as the alarm on the timer and it really grates on my soul!  And as I'm sure you can agree that there isn't a whole lot I can write in the time it takes me to run between the computer and the press (this paragraph has taken me five t-shirts!), this blog is going to be mainly pictures. Ol loved the characters. But not as much as the rides.  He went on about 16.  Seriously. He wasn't a fan of the car driving ones as he just couldn't make them work properly.  His dodgem effort was basically just driving aro...

Eve is 10: the birthday blog

Double digits?? Say what?!?!?! Did I blink and miss the last decade of you being in my life? The little girl who came along and tipped my world it on it's head.  The little tornado of sweetness and light, chaos and bonkers, all wrapped into one perfect little human. To make sure I always remember you as you become a tween, here are some of the things about you that are special: - ABBA - I'm not sure where this obsession came from but you cannot get enough of them.  You have our spotify account jumping from one ABBA song to the next all day long.  Mamma Mia 1 and 2 (who knew there was a second one??) are your absolute favourite movies and you talk about the characters life you've known them for years. - You are doing an amazing job of music at school.  You are in your second year of fife and have joined the senior fife band where you had to memorise all of the songs so you could march in formation for your performances.  Your fife is usually not too far fr...
