Eve is 11: the birthday blog

To my beautiful eleven year old daughter. Another year has flown by and you are another year older in the blink of an eye. Let me share some of the things I will always remember about you at this age. - You got a phone. Probably one of the biggest changes this year. Like all young people, you see it as an extension of your hand and you need to be reminded to get off it quite a lot. - You fronted up for another season of netball, despite your protestations. It is so lovely to see you out on the court supporting your team mates. - You are seriously addicted to Roblox. Like seriously! You could happily spend hours playing with your friends on there, or even side by side if you’re hanging out together. - You humour is wicked and sometimes savage. Your timing is ridiculously on point sometimes. - You’re not to old or too cool to play with your dolls. Sometimes they still get dusted off and dressed up. There have even been a few haircuts for some of them. - You love listening to audio stor

You are officially a teenager.  The big ONE THREE has finally come around.  I know I say it every year but it truly does feel like just moments since you came into this big world.  In typical fashion, you are I want to tell you some of the things that I will always remember about you at this age: - you were accepted into the academic excellence stream for high school and you not only kept your head above water, but finished your first year with an award for achieving five A's - your interest in photography and film has grown and you are enjoying making material and posting it online - something that makes me so very proud - your voice has gotten so deep.  You sound like a man, not the little boy I have grown used to talking to over all these years - you have become involved in drama at school and it fits you like a glove.  You have appeared on stage a number of times now and you are fearless in your performances - you got your first iphone.  This has become a constant source of f

Double digits?? Say what?!?!?! Did I blink and miss the last decade of you being in my life? The little girl who came along and tipped my world it on it's head.  The little tornado of sweetness and light, chaos and bonkers, all wrapped into one perfect little human. To make sure I always remember you as you become a tween, here are some of the things about you that are special: - ABBA - I'm not sure where this obsession came from but you cannot get enough of them.  You have our spotify account jumping from one ABBA song to the next all day long.  Mamma Mia 1 and 2 (who knew there was a second one??) are your absolute favourite movies and you talk about the characters life you've known them for years. - You are doing an amazing job of music at school.  You are in your second year of fife and have joined the senior fife band where you had to memorise all of the songs so you could march in formation for your performances.  Your fife is usually not too far from your hands and

A twelve year old? Are you serious? I couldn't have imagined a dozen years would fly by in the blink of an eye but somehow it has.  While I ponder how this could have possibly happened let me tell you some of the things I will always remember about Ollie at this age. - School captain.  Not sure I could be more proud.  From the time he was a little preppie he always looked at the captains and told me he would be like them one day. I should never have doubted his determination.  He delivered a killer speech, handed out a few badges and worked that gorgeous cheesy grin into election.   - He stinks!  If he skips deodorant in the morning you certainly know about it.  I can't fathom how much he pongs.  But he has also learned the value in smells and loves a good EDT. - He played another season of AFL with his mates.  Definitely not the usual full season but he hit his 50 games and his mates absolutely destroyed him with their water bottles.   - He missed out on so much this year.  Fo

Um, nine? Like twelve months until you hit double digits?? Are you serious? It feels literally like five minutes ago that you were the tiny little girl who completed our little family.  The one I had always dreamed of. To make sure I always remember you at this wonderful age, here are some of the things about you that are special: - you deconstruct your food.  I've never seen anyone pull apart a sandwich or burger the way you do and eat all of the components individually.   - you like to torture (or play with) small animals. We jokingly asked you if we would find a collection of dead geckos in your room.  To which you replied "I got rid of them".  You are either going to be a vet or a serial killer. - you are the stroppiest person I know.  Stubborn doesn't even come close to describe it.  You stomp your foot down like it is your super power.  But each and every time it just makes me laugh.  - you love your new puppy Taco so much.  You weren't as

Another year has flown by and somehow you are eleven.  Your life has now spanned across three different decades.  Crazy.  So let me tell you some of the things that I will remember about you at this age. -         You love reheated food for breakfast – pizza, sausages, any kind of leftovers.  We call it your University breakfast. -         You played your third season of AFL.  This year you faced the challenge of moving up to a full sized field but still had the best time playing along with your mates. -         You have started to read Stephen King books.  You’ve been asking for years but finally we relented and eased you in with some more tame ones.  You are onto your third one now and somehow we’ve only had one nightmare so far. -         You wear the same size clothes as me.  A size 10 shirt in our house could end up in anyone’s washing pile and I have found you wearing my t-shirts around without even knowing it. -         You received an academic medal for the s

My youngest child is eight!! How can that be? Nearly three thousand days on this planet?? As I come to grips with this let me share with you some of the things I want to always remember about her at this age: -         She has a crush.  She wouldn’t tell me for ages who it was but Ollie knew and was sworn to secrecy which is super cute.  Plus I knew pretty early on anyway thanks to her writing his name all around the place with love hearts around it. -          She makes this makes this weird cat noise – like a hissing meow.   It’s sometimes accompanied by a strange claw like gesture and usually when she doesn’t like something that you’ve done.   Everyone who has ever heard it agrees that it’s REALLY annoying.   Conversely she has a high pitched squeak like a guinea pig when she is happy about something.   Basically she is just a small animal.   -         She’s pretty brainy.  At the end of grade one she was proud to get five A’s on her report card.  The other night
